The dynamic city of Dallas is situated in the northeastern area of the state of Texas in the USA. Founded in 1841 as a trading post, Dallas is now one of the largest cities in the United States of America. Dallas covers almost 400 square miles / 1,036 square kilometers and is home to a population of more than 1,000,000 people, while the Dallas / Fort Worth area has over 5,000,000 residents. Acclaimed as a leading corporate center, Dallas is also well known for its wealth of impressive shopping facilities, superb restaurants, animated nightlife, tourist attractions and major American sporting outlets.

Sping is coming at us here in the north country of Montana like an awakening from a deep sleep. To my complete surprise I discovered that the tulips, crocuses and jonquils were actually poking out their little nubby heads – already. Already! Obviously we live in a colder region of the country up the Clark Fork River Canyon from Missoula, Montana, where snowbanks ever so gradually recede from the yard. I’m almost certain that folks to the west of us on the coast, at the southern end of the Rocky Mountains, and likely back east have been enjoying those same signs of springtime, for weeks now. So, yes, some of we Montanans dwelling back up the mountain canyons are surprised at the flowers starting to poke their heads out. It’s a good thing that it’s been a slow awakening to spring, because the urge to jump in the car and hit the highways and back roads has come gradually as well. There’s been too much to get done online over the past couple of months to have been bitten too early by the travel bug. As it was, my little family team yielded to our springtime urge to get out there and hit the road last weekend. We found ourselves among the very few – hardcore folks that chose to go to the Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge along the Bitterroot River between Florence and Stevensville, Montana. We had to take a walk along the new nature trail being established for bird watchers – in an inch and a half of fresh snow!

The city of Houston is America's fourth-largest city and although a spreading location, much of the appeal is concentrated in the city center, between the downtown district and the Galleria Mall. Houston is a young and vibrant city, with a host of restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Close to the Gulf Coast Cities, Houston is also home to a number of exceptional museums, popular festivals and regular well-attended sporting events at the city's stadium.

Where's The Moon on Flathead Lake, Montana? Don’t get me wrong - I’m as cranked for a boat ride on Flathead Lake of Montana as the next guy. There’s just nothing quite as relaxing, mellow and laid back as piling onto a party barge pontoon boat and setting out to cruise the lake, especially if there are enough brews and some good eats to fill out the boat trip agenda. It just didn’t occur to me as we set sail that hot summer afternoon in August, departing the Dayton, Montana bay that we were in for an extended journey in search of the moon - of all things! Oh sure, Captain Ron at the helm, had talked about the moon rising over the lake, how awesome the scene would be, especially since it would make it’s grand appearance rising over the Mission Mountains to the east of the lake. We thought he was kidding since the moon wasn’t even scheduled until 11:30 or so that night.

The Sweeney Peak Trail in the Montana Bitterroot Range in Montana heads for the sky high above Florence, Montana along the ridges below Sweeney Peak The lake - that sparkling blue jewel of Peterson Lake at the bottom of the canyon in the upper reaches of Sweeney Creek - had been an unattained goal through two previous attempts. I started with a fresh determination though, to reach that sparkling jewel this bright, sunny, August day, and return. The trailhead is at the upper end of a major vehicle climb from Montana Highway 93 and the Bitterroot valley floor. Sweeney Creek Road is located south of Missoula, Montana, and 1.5 miles south of Florence. Turning off 93 to the west you follow the paved Sweeney Creek Road .9 miles at which point it veers off to the south, and you proceed straight ahead on the dirt road, following FR 1315 all of 6.4 miles up the mountainside to the trailhead. The road through the switchbacks is steep, pushing the abilities of 2-wheel drive cars.
