Fast Foods Dining Wastes Money
The fact is now proven to me every day I dine out somewhere -- FAST FOODS COST TOO BLASTED MUCH!
Even the cheapest and the fastest meal will leave a big man hungry and is almost always over $5 per person. Two people, about $11.29 average. And what do you get? You get two slices of bread, some tasteless meat and maybe some lettuce, maybe a sprinkling of other vegetables and some condiments off the shelf if you are lucky.
I won't say anything about the pop being bad for you. That fact should be obvious to you before you ever get up out of bed of a morning.
But let's go down to our favorite Chinese restaurant. A buffet meal, all you want, $5.50 each. Not only do you get all you want, you get to fill your plate up with WHAT you want to eat. I am talking melons, chop suey, egg rolls, dinner rolls, four kinds of dessert, six kinds of chicken, four kinds of beef, two kinds of fish, salad with multiple ingredients to choose from and all freshly trimmed and topped off with your choice of nine different dressings. Then over on the other shelf is some nuts, coated nuts, cookies, and -- well there are more things out there to choose from. Again, the price is only $5.50 for lunch. Dinner does cost more, but the atmosphere perks up too. Which reminds me, you will also be dining with a lot better class of people at lunch and supper.
Besides Chinese there are also other ethnic restaurants along the road and maybe just down the street from you. I love Greek occasionally. There I dine for $4.50 and ALWAYS eat too much. Then there's the larger restaurants that offer buffet. Some of them have serving lines that look a mile long. One I go to in downtown Oklahoma City just about stops me in my tracks at the bread line with no less than fifteen different kinds of home-baked breads. There is also turkey, dressing, ham, roast, hamburger patties, at least five different hot veggies and then some that fill up the salad bowl. Best of all is the WHOLE tomatoes, liberal slices of onion, fried okra, and on, and on, and on.
"Oh yes, but you save TIME by stopping at the fast food places!"
No, actually you don't. I've timed it. You go in for the buffet and you will usually have GOOD food in your mouth and going down your throat in less than two minutes. At the fastest fast food place in town you usually don't even get to order for five minutes. Then you wait another four or five minutes for the food to get put on a tray or in a sack. If you're in the drive through there's always that last minute pawing for change and tossing through your package to see if you have everything you ordered, maybe two more minutes while the sales person goes to hunt for another package of ketchup or hot sauce, and then s/he has to go back for the salt and pepper. What about napkins? Oh Gee, do you want napkins too. Hang on while I find them for you. YES, I HEAR YOU HONKING BACK THERE!
I'm not saying all of the point of sales people are rude, I'm saying you are lucky if they aren't. But you look back at your last buffet crew. Remember all the smiles? Remember the fast service?
What on earth does it take to get you out of that fast food line and into some decent meals for a change? Try it. You are going to love it.
